Written By: Samden Sherpa Published: Tuesday, February 13, 2018, 18:38 [IST] The Bengaluru division of the South Western Railway (SWR) has now unveiled a dedicated mobile application for purchasing unreserved tickets on mobile by commuters and passengers traveling daily or at short notice.

"The mobile application eliminates the need for one to visit a counter for unreserved tickets and also helps in moving towards a digitized and cashless economy," Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru R.S. Saxena said. The app named "Unreserved Ticketing System on mobile" (UTS) allows passengers to book an unreserved paperless ticket for a journey between any two stations in the SWR region.
The app was launched here after then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu unveiled it in the national capital in January 2017. The UTS app can also be used to book an unreserved paper ticket and collect it at any of the automatic ticket vending machines in any part of the country.

Basically, passengers can get printed tickets from the ATVMs at the stations after booking the tickets through their mobile phones by giving their mobile number and the booking ID. In case, the passenger finds any difficulty in getting the ticket from ATVM, they can contact the UTS booking counter for getting the ticket. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store or Windows and passengers can register as users and charge his R-wallet (Railway wallet). Passengers have the option of getting the Railway wallet charged either at UTS counters or by logging on to https:// www.utsonmobile.indian rail.gov.in. After charging the R-wallet, passengers can book an unreserved ticket on his phone. Booking of mobile UTS tickets can also be done by using other payment options such as Debit or Credit cards, Net banking, Paytm or Mobikwik wallets. A helpline for the passengers in this regard has been activated and it could be contacted by dialing 0431-2418992, a press release said.

Additionally, the app also has an offline mode and helps in accessing the ticket even when one loses internet connection during the journey. In any case, the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) on mobile has been extended to several divisions now.
